http://www.japan-talk.com/jt/new/101-kinds-of-japanese-food
Okonomyiaki - vegetable pancake with seafood (usually octopus)
I made these with shrimp instead.
Japanese Curry Rice - much more mild than Indian curry
Maki-Zushi - sushi rolls with nori (seaweed) on the outside.
You can get these everywhere!
Japanese dumplings - these one had pork and tofu inside
kaiten-zushi - converyor belt sushi pull off what you want, or order specific things
They come around on the belt and then you pay per plate.
Special order roll at kaiten-zushi
Onigiri - rice ball with filling , wrapped in nori (seaweed)
Quite a tasty snack and comes in tons of flavors such as pickled plum, salmon, and ikura (salmon eggs)
Edemame - fresh soybeans
Just like in the States, it is steamed and eaten with salt.
Curry bread - filled friend bread (like a doughnut) with curry inside.
I was expecting a filled doughnut, not curry, but still very tasty.
Udon - fresh wheat noodles.
The best noodles I have ever had.. Ever!
Melon Pan- sweet bread (not melon flavored)
Clint had some waiting for me when I arrived in Tokushinma
Soba - buckwheat noodles, served cold in summer
Takoyaki - octopus dumplings. Doughy on the outside "creamy" on the inside
I had this while waiting for Clint to dance in Awa Odori, not my favoorite
Tempura - light batter fried fish meat and vegetables
Yakitori- grilled meat snd veggetables on skewers, generally chicken.
Another festival food, eaten at Awa Odori.
So far we are really enjoying eating new food, even if we don't know what most of them are at the time. Be on the look out for more food posts including things i am making in out tiny kitchen,
